Weekend Away

I was lucky enough to head up to Brisbane this weekend for a short break away and some highly needed relaxation time. The weather up there turned out to be perfect. We spent some time in the sun, lying on the beaches up on the sunshine coast, wondering around the southbank market and popping into Brisbane's Contemporary Gallery of Modern Art to see 'Valentino Retropective: Past/Present/Future'.
Unfortunately the no 'camera rule' was highly enforced within the exhibition so I couldn't get any sneaky snaps. The garments was very detailed though... Haute Couture indeed! The dresses dated back to 1959 when Valentino first emerged into the fashion world. Some garments are obviously outdated but the fact that each piece had been meticulously hand sewn was amazing.

Also got to pop into the Frock Shop, (boutique on James st just outside of the city). I've been following their blog and I was excited to see the Pop Corn piece was still in the window!! How cool!

Fleur Wood 'Food Friends and Fashion'

This week I was lucky enough to win a couple of invites to Fleur Wood's book launch at GPO last thursday evening.
'Food, Fashion and Friends' is a compilation of the fashion designer Fleur Wood's three great loves.

The cookbook was created to not only to provide a selection of beautiful recipes but also to inspire for the ultimate dinner party. There are suggestions for menu plans, styling of table settings, outfit inspiration even playlist suggestions!

The intimate event (with very cute waiters) was huddled within Fleur's GPO concept store. We were introduced to Fleur herself, giving us a brief overview of how the book came about as well as the process involved in its creation. Through the champagne, butterfly shaped treats and chocolate, we ended on an inspirational buzz, excited to host our own Fleur inspired diner party.

Thanks to Sarah from GPO for the invitations and to my beautiful friend Vanessa who came with me. I felt very lucky

Open Studios: Nicholas Building 2010

Open Studios Nicholas Building is a annual event hidden down the Cathedral Arcade on the corner of Swanston and Flinders Lane. The 9 floor building was opened up to the public on Thursday and Friday night, allowing the public to check out the series of designer and artists studios concealed within each level. The building is beautifully concealed which made the discovery of this event so much more exciting.
Most rooms were closed but occasionally a door opened onto the hallway allowing you to creep in for a peep. There was some gorgeous pieces, art, fashion, jewellery and bags.
Above are a couple of my favourites... jewellery by Nadine Treister, leather bags by Peter O'Connor, accessories by Skapa Bilda and jewellery by Karla Way [two pics from her blog, stocking in alice euphemia]

Big thanks to those special people who allowed me to take photos. Enjoyed the discovery, products were gorgeous!

The Coolness of Capes!

Thought this post was practical after an absolute freezing day in Melbourne. I adore capes, they keep you so snug and are so easy to fling on. I have used my favorite woolen tartan cape so much this winter and my grandma has been so keen to try and make some more. She has been collecting woolen fabrics from her op shop hunting :) I really need to invest in some creation time!
