Aboriginal Australian model, Samantha Harris, is popping up everywhere at the moment. I saw her awhile back but now she is unavoidable, catwalks, editorials, fashion tv.... maybe the next abbey lee kershaw????? thoughts?
Yes I am supose to be doing my studio work at the moment. Classes have started back this week and its already intense. I'm currently trying to map out my concept proposal to present for next week's class. I am having trouble picking what idea I want to go with....
Anyway whilst half doing work I found another interesting activity for this saturday. (Which I can't go to because I work almost every weekend.. sat and sun :-( ) However I still wanted to share my find.
Part of the State of Design Festival (click to read more about) happening in Melbourne at the moment, the brand MaterialByProduct is putting on a half an hour performance (3-3:30pm) at the NGV where they will be 'rethinking lace'. Recently the design label has also been in the process of thinking about the notion of a 'portable fashion house' whilst creating 'curtain gowns' (gowns inspired by curtain lace!) Sounds like it would be really interesting. Materialbyproduct always have some uniquely inspiring creations which really stand as DESIGN pieces rather than just everyday wearable disposable clothes.
Wish i wasn't working so many things i'd rather occupy my weekend with.

Today my Mum tried out her SLR camera skills for me... we got a couple of shots of the outfit :)
My sister bought these amazing zara pants on her last trip. They are high waisted and are so big and comfy. (I love fat pants as I call them)
The shoes are also zara which I bought a couple of years ago in London.
My Hussy fur over a plain KOOKAI knit kept me warm.
Ring and Bracelet are Diva.
And also from the great House of Harlow, the large gold starburst pendant necklace. Her stuff is getting better and better. She's doing shoes now as well which I didn't know!! check them out on mywardrobe
ps. sorry about the pic alignment still working everything out grrr
I love checking out events when they wonder through Melbourne. Even if they don't turn out to be fabulous, there's always fun in checking them out.
Last night was the launch of Melbourne Central Festival, Two Blocks, which runs over the next two weeks. The shopping hub will showcase art exhibitions, paintings, pop up fashion events and a lil live music on the side.
Dion Lee at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2010
As compelling as catwalk shows are, I've always thought the behind the scenes videos/ snap shots are so much more inspiring! The sketching, pattern making, construction, sewing, model fittings and the anxious pre show face of the designer. Seeing designers through the design process
This short vid, shows the amazing working/designing studio of Dion Lee. The basic white room with long cutting tables, mannequins and most importantly natural light seeping into the space. I think I will always crave that life! Playing with fabrics to create and construct, a simple but completely fantastical process.
These two brilliant items have been sitting in my Etsy shopping cart for a while. Today I am being good and resisting them because I am a rock bottom poor today. Mainly because I have to save my money for the snow next week!! yay
There is only one ring available for each item. How gorgeous are they! Great signature pieces!
